With students starting back to school in Septemer , Amy Wernicki (Bristol Eastern teacher), Mrs. Bristol America, teamed up with the United Way of West Central Connecticut to ensure students had the supplies they needed for a successful start to the school year. Thanks to the generosity shown by the shoppers at the Bristol Walmart, Mrs. Bristol was able to provide $330 worth of gift cards, 30 backpacks and numerous school supplies. Amy is honored to represent such an amazing community.
Orlando Vallee, Bristol Eastern High School, donated 10 gym bags and 2 LEO Club members (Natalie Zaloba and Megan Gettings) came out to support the event.
BEHS students scored highest in the state on the Connecticut Technical Education Assessment in the area of Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Creighton Paquette-Claman was presented an award at their annual conference recognizing this accomplishment by she and her students.
Mrs. Jacques and Mrs. Wernicki presented their work on literacy at the CTE Annual Conference in October.
Mrs. Janet Kenney represented Bristol Eastern High School by presenting professional development workshops for other media specialists at the annual conference of the CT Association of School Counselors.
Bristol Eastern High School Cross Country team hit the ground running this month to raise money and support Breast Cancer Awareness month after a former athlete of Head Coach, Kyle Fuller, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 22. Coach Fuller designed a special uniform shirt for the team that has been worn to the October meets. The entire Cross Country team held two separate fundraisers, one at Dunphy's Ice Cream raising $125.00, and a bake sale during the final home meet at Page Park raising $300.
On Thursday, October 22, Bristol Eastern's top runners for the season presented a check to the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness at Bristol Hospital in the amount of $425.00. Coach Fuller is planning to make this an annual fundraiser for the Bristol Eastern Cross Country Team.
Bristol Eastern High School Band participated in CT day parade at the Big E this year.
Bristol Eastern students and faculty participated in the National Day of Service and Remembrance by donating treats and packing those treats to first responders in the Bristol Community. September 11th is now recognized as the National Day of Service and Remembrance. This day is the culmination of efforts originally launched in 2002 by the 9/11 nonprofit MyGoodDeed with wide support by the 9/11 community and leading national service organizations. This effort first established the inspiring tradition of engaging in charitable service on 9/11 as an annual and forward looking tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.
Bristol Eastern High School Soccer team participated in the TOPSoccer program.
On October 14th, our Seniors participated in “What’s Next?” Seminars. Students had over twenty seminars to choose from designed to support their future aspirations and goals. Many members of our Bristol community came to meet with students to share their talents, knowledge, and expertise in various fields.
Bristol Eastern Faculty and students wore pink this October to raise awareness in the fight against Breast Cancer.
Service study hall created thank you cards to to Walter Reed Medical Center in November.
Nicholas Trottier (BEHS, ‘16) achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. Nicholas is a United Way Youth Board students and a LEO club member. Nicholas is always looking for ways to serve the Bristol community and truly embodies what we want a Bristol Eastern student to represent.
Students of the Month for September:
Grade 9/ Ashley Aponte: Ashley
makes it a point to get to know each and every student in her class and
goes above and beyond to make them feel comfortable in whatever
situation they are in. The
entire team of teachers recommends Ashley for SOM. I have never had a
student more deserving. Ashley has to overcome learning obstacles to be
successful and she takes on this challenge with so much drive and
motivation. She is truly an active participant in her own learning and
demonstrates success because of this.
Grade 10/Adam Case: His teacher writes: "Adam
is always very polite and I have witnessed him standing up for other
people's point of views when they aren't the same as the majority. Adam
is great about making sure that other students have what they need it
class. He is always prepared for class and during our first quiz he was
helping other students study for the test.I
was helping a student with computer issues and Adam saw two other
students struggling with Google Drive and Docs. He stepped right up to
help the other students get where they needed to be and start the
assignment. I had Adam in class last year and he continues to go above
and beyond on a regular basis."
Grade 11/Roland Horvath: His teacher writes: "Roland
is constantly polite, raises his hand to participate, acts with dignity
towards other students, and positively encourages other students'
responses even if they have the wrong answer. Roland
is extremely focused in class and is determined to do well. Roland self
advocates and reflects upon his work and will not hesitate to help other
students who don't understand something during group work. Roland
has a very positive outlook in all aspects of the classroom and has a
bright and sunny personality. He is not afraid to ask questions and will
participate by connecting the learning to what he has learned in
documentaries which also helps other students."
Grade 12/ Brenda Krosnicki: Her teacher writes: "Brenda
is a kind and caring individual who looks out for everyone. I have so
much respect for her for how hard she works at being there for everyone.
She is a beautiful young lady. Brenda
works very hard at everything she does. It is my experience of Brenda
that this is how she always looks at life by always trying to do the
right thing which is not only responsible but incredibly mature. I want
her to start the year with the knowledge that she is viewed as a leader,
a friend and a conscientious student who has garnered the respect of
staff and students alike."
Students of the Month for October
Madeline Rodriguez, Grade 9: Maddy models respectful behavior among her peers and faculty. As
an AVID student, Maddy has disciplines work habits and is a role model
in the class. She goes above and beyond expectations to be successful.
Emma Guilmette, Grade 10: Emma
is a leader within BETA. She is kind, respectful of other people (not
just mine and Allen's) time and effort they are putting into the
production. She does what is expected of her, often without being asked
and works very well and closely with her cast and crew members to make
the production run smoother. She
not only knew EVERY line of the show for our line call (which has never
happened since I started working with BETA), she encourages other
students to be doing their best as well. When she is not needed on stage
or for costumes, Emma often just sits with her castmates and practices.
No one every tells her to do this, she just does it. Likewise, she is
the first to volunteer for things that are "not in her job description."
She will help whatever and whoever with anything. She just truly wants
to make this the best production it can be. I
can already see a tremendous amount of growth and maturity in Emma from
her freshman year in BETA. She is the ideal student. Smart, respectful,
kind, funny, and extremely hard working. I am so beyond proud of all
that she has accomplished so far and so excited for all the wonderful
things she is going to do. She is not the type of student that asks for a
lot of attention, or wants people to recognize her for what she is
doing. She just does it.
Harrison Dayton, Grade 11: Academically,
Harrison is a rock star, taking AP Calc, AP Biology, AP Government,
Biotechnical Engineering, and ACC Latin. He exudes excellence Harrison
is always respectful and polite in class, and shows respect amongst his
peers as well - offering to help students understand concepts or work
through difficult problems.
Paisley Tucker, Grade 12: Paisley is a faculty favorite for her kind-hearted, respectful nature. She always strives for excellence. As a senior, she is not taking the "easy" route - she is doubling up in science and is taking pre-calc and Spanish 4. She often volunteers outside of school and was a tremendous help to Mrs. Hyde and Mrs. Kielma at the STEAMFest!
