Events for the Week of October 19

School Events

  • We have parent conferences this week on Monday and Tuesday from 6:00-8:00pm.  On Wednesday, we'll have afternoon conferences from 2-4pm. We hope to see many of our parents here.  There is an altered schedule for students on parent conference days and for that reason, we will have no homeroom; students will go directly to their first block classes.
  • Prior to our parent conferences this evening, our counselors will host a "meet your counselor" session.  We do have two dedicated freshmen counselors so when students transition to their sophomore year, they are assigned to a new counselor.  If your son or daughter is a sophomore, we encourage you to come so you can meet and talk with the new counselor, though all parents are welcome to attend to hear our guidance news and updates and helpful hints for each year of a student's high school career.
  • Students will have the opportunity to take the ASVAB on Friday, October 23rd.  Students should sign up with their school counselor.

Events for the Week of October 13

School Events:
  • Future Planning for Seniors.  Beginning at 7:30am on Wednesday all of our seniors will have the opportunity to participate in two workshops focused on planning their future. Workshops are being offered around the college application process, seeking scholarships, planning a military career, entering the workforce, personal budgeting and more. Students had the opportunity to select two workshops of their choice from 20 offerings.  There will be no late arrival on Wednesday.  All seniors are expected to participate in the workshops they selected.  I know our teachers are excited to be working with them and have taken great care in planning their workshops.
  • PSAT day.  Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors on Wednesday will be taking the PSAT.  The PSAT  schedule and room assignments have been posted around the building, sent to students' gmail accounts, and have been reviewed in their English classes.  Students should be sure to check the room number, not only the teacher, of their PSAT assignment since all PSAT sessions will be held on the second floor and some teachers will be moving there for the testing block.  Students should bring with them a calculator and a pencil after getting a good night's rest this evening.  This PSAT will follow the format and types of questions that our juniors will take this year to meet our state requirement for reading and math proficiency.  It is an excellent opportunity to identify areas of strengths and areas for future development and growth.  Students will receive their scores, including targeted areas for improvement in December.
  • To encourage this future planning for all students, we're encouraging students to wear shirts representing their school of choice after high school on Wednesday.
  • Students will be signing up for parent conferences this Thursday and Friday.  Sign up forms were mailed home two weeks ago.  Extra sign up sheets will be available in all of our offices.
  • All students are encouraged to wear Pink on Friday to bring awareness to the fight against Breast Cancer.

  • Volleyball competes against Farmington on Thursday night at 6:00pm
  • Boys' Soccer will compete against New Britain on Friday at 3:45pm
 Parent Events:
  • Tonight we'll have our second meeting of the year for the Drug and Alcohol Free Graduation Celebration committee at 6:30pm in the library.  I know they are always looking for more parents to be involved.
  • Football boosters will also meet Tuesday in the library conference room starting at 6:00pm.
  • Next week, our All Sports Booster Club will have a table at parent conferences. I know they always appreciate donations of Gatorade, water, bags of popcorn, and boxes of candy to sell at concessions. Please consider bringing a donation of these items when you come for parent conferences.
